BAC Estimator
Rough estimate of blood alcohol concentration using the Widmark formula. This is for education only — never use a calculator to decide whether to drive.
⚠ Don't drive based on this calculator
The Widmark formula gives a population-average estimate. Your actual BAC depends on dozens of variables — food, sleep, meds, body composition, genetics. If you've been drinking, don't drive. Call a ride. Period.
FAQ
What's the legal limit? +
US: 0.08% in all states for adults. Utah: 0.05%. Commercial drivers (CDL): 0.04%. Under 21: 0.00-0.02% (zero tolerance). Other countries: 0.05% in most of Europe.
How fast does alcohol leave the body? +
~0.015 BAC per hour on average. Nothing speeds this up — not coffee, cold showers, "sober pills", or food after the fact. Only time.
What if I had food? +
Food slows absorption but doesn't reduce total BAC. Eating before drinking lowers peak BAC by ~25-30% but the same total alcohol is still in your system.
Is this Widmark formula accurate? +
It's accurate to within ±20% for the average person. Individual variation is large. Don't make decisions about driving from any calculator.
Heads up: ClutchCalcs gives you fast, accurate results — but always sanity-check critical decisions (medical, financial, structural) with a professional.
