Plug in hazard class and we'll tell you the maximum travel distance, recommended extinguisher rating, and minimum size per NFPA 10.

FAQ

What is 'travel distance'? +
The distance an occupant must walk from any point in the building to reach the nearest extinguisher. NFPA 10 measures it along the actual path of travel — around walls, through doors — not as the crow flies.
Why is Class B different? +
Flammable liquids spread fast. NFPA 10 cuts the max travel distance roughly in half (50 ft for light hazard, 30 ft for ordinary) so you get to the fire before it does.
Class K kitchens? +
Required wherever there's a cooking appliance using grease. Max travel distance is 30 ft. Hood suppression system doesn't replace the requirement.
What about Class D? +
Combustible metals (magnesium machining, sodium labs). Generic ABC won't extinguish — use a Class D specific dry powder (Met-L-X, copper-based). 75 ft max distance.
