When does heat pump beat gas? +
COP × gas rate > electric rate × AFUE. Roughly: COP 2.5+ with cheap electric beats gas. Rooftop solar makes the gap huge.
HSPF vs COP? +
HSPF is COP × 3.412, averaged over a heating season per AHRI test conditions. Modern cold-climate units hit HSPF 10-12.
