Imperial Fraction Calculator

Tape-measure math without losing your mind. Type measurements the way you'd write them on a stud — like 5'-5 1/4" or 9' 11 5/8" — and stack as many as you need.

Measurements

Examples: 5' 5 1/4" · 11" · 3'-0 · 8 ft 6 in

Operation
Add a measurement to start.

How to type measurements

  • Feet + inches + fraction: 5' 5 1/4" or 5'-5 1/4" or 5ft 5 1/4in
  • Inches only: 11 3/8" or just 11.375
  • Feet only: 8' or 8 ft
  • Decimals work too: 5.4375 ft, 65.25 in
  • Dashes, spaces, and the words ft/in are all optional. The parser figures it out.

FAQ

Negative results? +
If you subtract a bigger measurement from a smaller one, you'll get a negative result. Useful when you're checking if a piece is too long.
Why round to 1/16th? +
It's the standard tape-measure increment. Anything finer is hard to mark consistently. Use 1/32nd for trim work or 1/8th for framing if that's how you cut.
Layout mode — what's it for? +
Say you've got a 12'-0" wall and want 4 evenly spaced cabinet pulls. Set first measurement to 12'-0", mode to "Lay out N spaces along first measurement", N=4. You'll get the exact center marks.
Center mode? +
Plug in any measurement, switch to "Find center" \u2014 you get half. Useful for finding the middle of a stud bay or doorway.
