FAQ
Why does foliage add so much? +
A fully-leafed canopy can hold significant water in addition to the leaf and twig mass — easily 20-30% of the wood weight on a healthy summer limb.
Are my estimates too low for storms? +
Yes — wind-loaded or ice-laden limbs can carry many times their fair-weather weight. Use this calc as a baseline; assume 2-3× for catastrophic loads.
How does this compare to log weight? +
Limbs taper more aggressively than logs (often 3:1 or more from base to tip), so the truncated-cone math here uses a tighter taper than the log calc.
Heads up: ClutchCalcs gives you fast, accurate results — but always sanity-check critical decisions (medical, financial, structural) with a professional.
