Live + Dead Load Combination
Plug in your service loads (D, L, S, W, etc.) and we'll apply ASCE 7 / IBC load combinations. The governing combo is highlighted. Always verify with the latest code edition.
FAQ
LRFD vs ASD? +
LRFD uses factored loads with strength resistance — modern preferred method. ASD uses service loads with allowable stresses — still used in wood and masonry design. Both are valid; pick one and stay consistent.
Which combinations are missing? +
This is a simplified subset of ASCE 7 §2.3/2.4 combos. Full design must also consider lateral-only, drift, seismic with overstrength, and fluid loads. Always verify against the full code.
Snow vs live vs roof live? +
Use the larger of Lr or S (they don't both occur). Live load L is your floor live load — different from roof.
Heads up: ClutchCalcs gives you fast, accurate results — but always sanity-check critical decisions (medical, financial, structural) with a professional.
