For a side dish: 2 oz dry (which becomes ~4 oz cooked weight). For a main: 4 oz dry. A 1 lb box of dry pasta makes about 8 side servings.
Best pasta shape for pasta salad? +
Rotini, penne, fusilli, and shells hold dressing in their ridges and pockets — they're the classics. Spaghetti and linguine are terrible (no surface for dressing). Tortellini is great when you want substance with less mix-ins.
How long does pasta salad keep? +
Refrigerated, 4-5 days. Vinaigrette-based ones last longer than mayo-based. Don't freeze — pasta gets mealy.
