FAQ
Typical residential setbacks? +
Suburban: 25' front, 20' rear, 8' sides. Urban: 10-15' front, 10-15' rear, 5-7' sides. Rural large lot: 50'+ on all sides. Look up your zoning district.
Corner lots? +
Corner lots usually have two "front" setbacks (the two street frontages) and only one side + rear. Tighter buildable envelope is the result.
Setback encroachments allowed? +
Eaves usually project up to 2-3' into setbacks. Chimneys, bay windows, decks under 18" high often allowed. Always confirm with zoning.
Heads up: ClutchCalcs gives you fast, accurate results — but always sanity-check critical decisions (medical, financial, structural) with a professional.
