Pool salt vs water softener salt? +
Pool salt is 99.8%+ pure sodium chloride. Softener salt can have anti-caking additives that gunk up the cell. Always use pool-grade.
Too much salt? +
Drain and refill is the only fix. Above ~4,500 ppm most cells throw a high-salt error. Above 6,000 ppm you risk corrosion of stone, metal, and SCG plates.
When to re-test? +
Salt only leaves with splash-out, backwashing, or major dilution events. Once a month is plenty. Re-add after a heavy rain that overflows the pool.
