Why so much waste? +
Cuts at walls, broken tiles, and future repairs. 10% is the floor; pattern layouts, large tiles, and inexperienced installers all push it higher.
What about grout? +
This is tile count only. Grout coverage depends heavily on tile size, joint width, and depth — most bags list coverage on the packaging.
Should I buy by the box or by the piece? +
Most tile is sold by the box with a fixed sq ft per box. Use this number to figure out box count: tiles × tile area ÷ sq ft per box, then round up.
