Pool Construction
Water Weight Calculator
Water weighs 8.34 lb per gallon. That backyard pool you're building? It's about to dump 80+ tons on the soil. Run the load.
FAQ
What's the load on the deck slab? +
Water adds 62.4 lb per cubic foot. A foot-deep hot tub footprint is 62 psf — about the same as a wet, packed earth load. Always check with an engineer on raised decks.
Why does soil bearing matter? +
Most residential soils handle 1,500–3,000 psf. A 6-ft deep pool puts ~375 psf at the floor, well within limits. But raised concrete spas, perimeter overflows, or rooftop pools need real engineering.
Conversion? +
1 US gallon = 8.345 lb. 1 cubic foot = 62.43 lb = 7.481 gal. Cold water is slightly heavier than warm.
