Wind Load Calculator (Simplified)
ASCE 7 simplified method. Plug in basic wind speed (from the ASCE 7 hazard map), exposure category, and building height. Get design wind pressure for preliminary sizing.
⚠ Preliminary estimate only
This is a heavily simplified ASCE 7 calculation. Real building design needs the full procedure including topographic factor, gust effect factor, internal pressure coefficient, and component/cladding loads. Engage a licensed engineer for permit-ready calcs.
FAQ
Where do I get V? +
ASCE 7 wind hazard maps at asce7hazardtool.online. Inputs: site address + risk category. Typical residential: 110-130 mph. Hurricane coast: 150-180+ mph.
What's Kz? +
Velocity pressure exposure coefficient — accounts for height + ground roughness. Higher buildings and open terrain = higher Kz = more wind pressure.
MWFRS vs C&C? +
MWFRS (main wind force resisting system) loads design the structure overall. C&C (components and cladding) loads design windows, panels, fastenings — usually 2-3× higher near corners.
Heads up: ClutchCalcs gives you fast, accurate results — but always sanity-check critical decisions (medical, financial, structural) with a professional.
